Hello Friends,
In this time of social distancing and isolation traditional tennis training becomes harder then normal, but not impossible if you are creative. I have come up with a few suggestions for at home training ideas.
At Home Fitness:
Developing a strong core is essential for all serious tennis players. Dean is a leading athletic trainer to many pro players, and he has put together an easy routine for players of all levels and ages to do.
At Home Mental Training:
A constant theme within the academy is perspective. Perspective is the window from which we view the world around us and thus determines how we are going to interact with it.
Tennis the greatest sport in the world, but it should never be our whole world. If we base our entire view of success only on how well we are doing in tennis at that moment, then we lose the long term vision which is essential to be successful in tennis!
The video below is one of my personal favorites and a great reminder for all of us on how to have a better perspective.
At Home Technical Training – Footwork and Shadow Swings:
Andy Murray is famous for his love and belief in shadow swings. He uses them in many of his daily training routines. The video below highlights Andy practicing his shadow serves plus first ball, return of serve, and volleys.
All players can practice this routine with a little bit of open space!
This video contains a few more additional footwork exercises for players to do at home.
I would not recommend using the training belt shown in these videos at home.
During these times of uncertainty it is important to make time for activities we enjoy. I hope these suggestions will provide players with a few ideas to keep them inspired to continue improving and chasing their tennis goals! I am confident that as long we continue to support each other as a united tennis community, we will come out strong on the other side.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the courts soon!
Best,
Nick
